A special birthday celebration: Road Trip to Costa Rica

News, Special Events | 29 January 2011

Costa Rica is a popular destination not only to get married but also to come on a family trip or for a special event. For the past year and a half I have been planning a 50th birthday celebration extravaganza for Laura. Laura wanted a once-in-a-lifetime trip for her 10 best friends that she invited from the US for a week-long stay in this tropical paradise. I will be blogging about their road trip to Costa Rica all week as they make their way through Costa Rica!

1st stop: The Jungle – Lapa Rios
Highlights of Lapa Rios: Declared one of the most biologically intense places on earth by National Geographic Magazine
Activities: Hiking in the rainforest, exotic animal sightings, rappelling down waterfalls.

2nd stop: The volcano – Arenal
Highlights of Arenal: One of the 10 most active volcanoes in the world!
Activities: Hiking in volcano, natural hot springs, horseback riding, waterfalls, hanging bridges and zipline tour.

3rd stop: The beach- Punta Islita
Activities: Surf lessons, kayaking, Costa Rican cooking class, Spa and relaxation and meet and greet with local schoolchildren.

April & Jack Arenal Volcano Wedding

Rehearsal dinner: Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort
Wedding: Arenal Lodge

Definitely one of the best rehearsal dinners ever: treating your guests to a night at the hot springs at Arenal Volcano. After a weekend full of volcano-related activities, April and Jack tied the night up in the mountains at the Arenal Lodge. The decor was perfect for the rustic lodge: stones, floating candles and floating orchids. The dessert was also a good fit for the volcano setting: lava cake! Photos below from the fabulous Richard May.
